Capital Cities - Safe and Sound
I wish I could be this optimistic lol not really
I could lift you up
I could show you what you want to see
and take you where you want to be
You could be my luck
Even if the sky is falling down
I know that we’ll be safe and sound
I could fill your cup
You know my river won’t evaporate
This world we still appreciate
You could be my luck
Even in a hurricane of frowns
I know that we’ll be safe and sound
I could show you love
In a tidal wave of mystery
You’ll still be standing next to me
You could be my luck
Even if we’re six feet underground
I know that we’ll be safe and sound

On July 1, student loan interest rates are set to double - from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent. On Wednesday, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., introduced her first piece of legislation on the Senate floor: students paying back federally subsidized loans would have an interest rate of .75 percent. That’s the same rate that major banks are charged for borrowing money from the government. Her argument is that students shouldn’t have to pay nine times as much interest as banks for their loans.
Her statement, via Americablog:
Big banks pay interest that is one-ninth the rate that students will pay. That is wrong. It doesn’t reflect our values. We shouldn’t be profiting from our students who are drowning in debt while we’re giving great deals to big banks. We should be investing in our young people so they can get good jobs and grow this economy, so let’s give them the same great deal the banks get….
If the Federal Reserve can float trillions of dollars to large financial institutions at low interest rates to grow the economy, surely they can float the Department of Education the money to fund our students, keep us competitive, and grow our middle class.
She continuesto explain how her own student debt repayments were equal to her rent back in 1989, which caused her to put off major purchases like buying a home.
What do you think? Should students get the same interest rate as the banks? Or are they apples and oranges when it comes to borrowing money?
Should students get to pay the same interest rate as banks?

The dinosaur sequel, being directed by Colin Trevorrow, was due to begin production June 24 for a release date of June 13, 2014.
But on Wednesday the studio put the brakes on the project, deciding it needed more time for development.
While we don’t have much of an opinion on this news, we imagine there are more than a few Jurassic Park fans out there thrilled to hear that JP4 won’t be rushed to the silver screen.
Jurassic Park 4 has been on hold since right after Jurassic Park 3 came out… 12 years ago.

There was a party on May 3rd at the University of Southern California with the majority of attendees being African-American and Hispanic USC students. The party was registered with the school, and there was another party directly across the street being attended by mostly Caucasian/White students. Both parties had similar noise levels according to dozens of accounts from both sides (source).
Two cops arrived to the party with the minorities and told them to lower their noise level; the party’s host told the attendees to go inside the house and they resumed the party in there with lower volume. A few minutes later the cops came back and students began leaving, and the cops arrested the host. More and more cops began to arrive and soon a helicopter came. All of this was while the students were filing out and more and more cops entered the home; furthermore, the white party continued across the street and some officers even went there to tell them to stay inside and safe. A white student told reporters that “basically they didn’t stop our party at all. They had no problem with us.” (source).
As the minority students saw all the cops and attempted to leave, some were tased, and some were slammed to the ground and arrested. Many resisted on the grounds that they had no idea why they were being arrested seeing as they were leaving peacefully and were over the drinking age (the party required ID). Even more cops arrived (source)(video).
Later that night at about 4:30am, a resident at the house where the white party was thrown was awoken by thudding. He rose to see two LAPD officers trying to speak to his roommate. They ordered him to wake up everybody in the (co-ed) house and as they did so they stumbled into two female residents shirtless and asleep, and one of the officers simply stared. (source)
The reason that they were in that house was to gather statements about how LAPD acted correctly against the minority students but the students at the white party’s house gave factual statements that did not incriminate the minority students how the officers wanted. They have complained about their home being entered without a warrant in the middle of the night but have yet to hear back.
On Tuesday USC will have an open forum in regards to the racial profiling that happened (at the party and in the past) at the school but that is not enough; this has to be more than a local issue and should be made known nationally. USC has issues with racial profiling and it is time that it stops. Anyone can help by signing this petition and making it big. (Photograph source)
